Another year has passed and it seems like I am not a very frequent blogger. So, here is a brief (and most likely incomplete) update on what has happened since: Once I got back from the internship in Saudi Arabia, I started my Master project delving into the realms of microbes in rice field soil. I have successfully finished my thesis. Meanwhile, as a preliminary step for my upcoming project, I am attending an incredible workshop on molecular evolution in Woods Hole. Update: Last Friday was my last day with the microbiologists and since then, I am enjoying a few days off, visiting friends and family, and of course the annual kids camp in my home town.

Off to SA
No, that is not going back to Systems Administration, neither to South Australia. This time it is Saudi-Arabia where I will do my internship. I can not believe it has been a year since I last posted here. Seems like I put much more time and effort into maintaining my blog’s website behind the scene than posting content. It has actually been three years since I have posted some real content. So, what happened? I have finished my bachelor’s degree in the summer of 2013. Therefore, I worked on a methodological question concerning sample preparation for next generation sequencing of large metagenomes in the field of molecular microbiology. Afterwards I worked for Vodafone for half a year to finance part of the master’s degree. I also moved house within Konstanz by the end of that year. With Dominika I now live in a beautiful house with a garden in a very quiet and friendly neighborhood. In 2014 we both started our master’s degree, specializing in ecology and evolution. Since we need to do an internship, I grabbed the opportunity to apply to the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) within the Marine Science program. Tonight I will fly out and I do not really know what to expect other than gaining a whole bunch of new experiences and having a great time over there. Stay tuned …

Work in progress – blog.resumed
After some annoying attacks, this site has been down for more than a year. Today is the day this is going to end. There were some minor circumstances that kept me from working on this page in the last few months (like working for a living or getting my first degree in Biology 😉 ). Now, with a pristine wordpress installation, I am trying to resume the page and piece by piece recover older posts – so stand by folks …

Unpredicted future – another year gone by
There are – at least – three things I am not good at: Running away, giving up, and letting go. This is why I am what I am. Looking back, I do not regret a single major decision in life. I would do it all over again.

Bergfest
According to Beo Lingus this translates into “party to celebrate reaching the halfway stage” – and this pretty much hits the nail on the head when it comes to my studies. Party itself is still to be celebrated, but the first half of my untergrad is done and I’m itching to get back to university. At the moment, I’m working (last day) to get my deficient finances straightened out. Not exactly in Biology but back with Vodafone, where I’m having fun fumbling around with networks and radio links. After spending Easter with my family, I’m looking forward to one week much-anticipated holiday with my dearest before the next term starts.
Lake Constance I’m coming 🙂
